Speaking Independent Tasks

Ø  Task 1

[Question]

Your local community center wants to add some new workshops or programs for children, which of the following do you think would be the most beneficial for children’s development?

1. Crafts and art workshop

2. Technology workshop

3. Athletic programs

[Response]

I think it would be a great idea for the community center to add an athletics workshop. This is for two main reasons

The first one, obviously, is it would be good to teach the kids to be healthy and to exercise more. My dad says that when he was young, kids would just run outside all the time but that’s not true anymore. I know for a lot of my friends and for younger kids, they stay inside on their electronic devices and on their computers and they don’t go outside a whole lot.

Furthermore, I think that athletics programs are a great way to make friends. I met my two best friends, John and Josh, at a soccer program. None of us play soccer anymore, but we’re still great friends.

Ø  Task 2

[Question]

Do you agree with the following statement: When visiting a country for the first time, it is important to know their tradition and culture?

[Response]

I think it can be very important to learn about a country’s culture and traditions before you travel to that country.

One reason is that it’ll just make your trip more fun. For example, my family and I traveled to America, and before we went there we learned that Americans are very open and warm and they talk to people a lot. Because of that, we wound up meeting a lot of really great people there and we’re still friends with a lot of them. We had a lot of fun.

Furthermore, if you learn about a country’s culture and traditions before you go there, you can avoid some pretty embarrassing situations. Like, if you went to France and you didn’t know that a lot of people kiss when they meet each other, it would probably be really embarrassing if some stranger walks up and tries to kiss you.

Writing Independent Task

[Question]

A university wants to improve the quality of life for students who reside in a dormitory on campus. Which one of the following things do you think the university should spend money on for this purpose, and why?

1Providing a room for quiet study

2Building an exercise room so that students can improve their physical well-being

3Providing a place for entertainment (for example, a place where students could watch films together)

[Response]

It’s important for universities to provide comfortable living conditions for their students who live on campus. Schools provide a good quality of life by investing in quiet study areas, fitness centers, or entertainment facilities. If a school only had money to invest in one of those options, I think it would be best to build an entertainment facility.

First off, a dedicated quiet zone isn’t necessary because universities already have plenty of places to study. The most obvious one is the library, but students can also study at cafes, in empty classrooms, or even just outside at a park. My brother said that he had a really noisy dorm when he was in university, so he would just go up to the building’s roof when he wanted to study. The point is that it’s nice to have a quiet place to study, but it’s not necessary to build facilities just for that. There’s already plenty of naturally quiet places.

Similarly, a fitness center would be great but it’s not necessary to have a gym just to get some exercise. In fact, I don’t even like going to the gym when I want to exercise. My favorite exercise is to just go outside and jump rope for a few minutes. Students could also go out for a run, go biking, or do pushups at home. Another idea is that students could join a sports team if they want to exercise with a bit more structure. Playing a sport like soccer or basketball is a great way to keep fit without having to hit the gym.

However, I believe university students will find that an entertainment room is invaluable. After all, it’s the first time for the vast majority of university students to live on their own. I also read a study that said that a majority of freshman university students struggle with feeling deeply homesick. Therefore, universities must first fulfill their students’ basic human need to feel comfortable in their environment. The best way to do that is to create an area for students to meet people and make friends.

In the end, it would be great if every university could build every sort of facility for their students. However, that isn’t a realistic option. For universities looking to wisely spend their hard-earned cash, I think the best thing they can do is to build an entertainment facility to help the students to have a healthy social life.

1. If a school only had money to invest in one of those options, I think it would be best to build an entertainment facility.

2. The best way to do that is to create an area for students to meet people and make friends.

句式结构“The best way to do that is…”

3. After all, it’s the first time for the vast majority of university students to live on their own.

句式“its the first time…”

Ø  Similarly, a fitness center would be great but it’s not necessary to have a gym just to get some exercise.

Ø  Another idea is that students could join a sports team if they want to exercise with a bit more structure.

Ø  I also read a study that said that a majority of freshman university students struggle with feeling deeply homesick.
