　　In many countries, people can eat a wide variety of food today. As a result, they eat more food from other regions than local food. Do you think the advantages of the development outweigh the disadvantages?

　　As globalisation spreads to all parts of the world, culinary choices have increased dramatically. In cities where it was once unthinkable to eat food from other parts of the country, let alone the world, more and more people are being exposed to dishes of many different types.

　　As people’s food tastes evolve, they demand increased variety in terms of what they eat. In that sense, more and more food is imported from other regions and nations, putting pressure on local food producers to compete with lower prices. In Britain, for example, domestic farming has suffered as a result of cheap, imported food. At the same time, local food suppliers such as butchers and cheese makers are going out of business as a result of changing tastes. Efforts have been made to reverse this trend, but they have not gone nearly far enough.

　　Nonetheless, diversity of food choice is indicative of a diverse culture. Towns and cities that offer food from places as diverse as Lebanon, India, Italy and Latin America tend to have culturally diverse populations, reflecting the success of multiculturalism and integration. An increased interest in a variety of foods can also cause people to become more conscious of their dietary choices. This will lead them to consider how best to lead a healthy lifestyle and change their diet accordingly.

　　Overall, I would contend that a wider array of food choices can only be a good thing for any country, yet efforts should be made to protect domestic agriculture and food industries.
