　　Task 1 The map shows the fire escape plan in a dorm in a university.

　　范文：

　　The map depicts the inner layout of a dorm with fire escape facility on the second floor of a university.

　　In the south of the student accommodation are sited three bedrooms (from No.3 to No.5). People who live in the bedroom No. 3 can escape by stairs at the meeting point 1, which is on the opposite side of this bedroom in the southwest. Also, in the west corner of the dorm is bedroom No.1 where it is adjacent to bedroom No.2. In the meanwhile, those students from bedroom No.1 and No.2 can get easier access to the same meeting point as bedroom No.3.

　　There is a lift in the middle of the northern part of this building. Next to the lift, there is another new meeting point for those who live in the bedrooms from No.4 to No.7. When fire occurs, people are not allowed to use lift. Instead, they would use meeting point two to survive.

　　Overall, according to the plan, there are two fire escape routes for those living in the dorm to escape, and the right one allows more students to escape compared to the left one.

　　Over recent years, it is not unusual to see that a growing number of students enter university or college for further education. The Institute of Education in China published its yearly report that the number of college students was a record high last year, and the issue about whether the students should learn a great variety of subjects or just focus on their major subject to become specialists has been the spotlight of the public. As far as I am concerned, I am absolutely for this viewpoint.

　　No doubt, learning plenty subjects perfectly lays a good foundation for the individuals and enables them to achieve overall development. Owing to the fact that we were exam-oriented in the high school, we lacked of adequate general knowledge and practical experience about the outside world. However, by acquiring information of every field, such as mathematics, economy, psychology, technology, the youth are likely to be more rounded so that their scope of knowledge can be substantially broadened.

　　Nonetheless, the college students have less pressure once they focus on a particular subject. Today, teenagers are under increasingly severe stress in their studies, which has also disturbed many adults. For example, the course or module they learn involves deadline assignment, project design or group discussion work. The burden, to some extent, may be extremely overwhelming.

　　Some educators also claim that they should focus on the majors due to the fact that it can help them to cultivate the professional skills and identify the ideal jobs in the future. It is recommended by some educationalists that allowing the adolescents to just learn their own subjects at university can make them be highly competitive. In this way, they can probably make full use of what they have learned in the career age.

　　In short, despite the merits of laying a solid foundation for study while learning wide range subjects, it must be stressed that focusing on one subject is more essential to them. Only with this expertise, can an ideal job and future can be ensured.
