　　Urban planning is crucial to the development of a city because the way sectors coordinate with each other affects how this city will run. While arranging the constructions according to their functions may seem logical to some extent, the advantages of which, in my opinion, can not neutralize the drawbacks it brings.

　　Admittedly, separating the commercial, educational and residential zones enables these areas to function more purposefully. When shops and stores clustering together encourage competitions in the industry and thus provide more options to the customers when they walk on a commercial street, they still leave the local dwellers in tranquility where no skyscrapers and complexes could be found. Also, better academic atmosphere can be generated among schools and educational institutes.

　　However, the flaw in this kind of allocation is also evident for all to see—the inconvenience brought by the unnecessary distance between each areas. Australia, a country where districts are strictly divided, troubles its citizens with a long travelling time. When shopping and commuting become time consuming, the frequency of the commercial behavior will decrease and therefore affects the economic development. In contrast, the life in China is more convenient because people’s need of purchasing, schooling and resting can all be fulfilled within a few blocks.

　　In addition, the spread of urbanization is more possible to happen in cities with several semi-developed multifunctional satellite suburbs rather than places only serve a single purpose.

　　To sum up, the inconvenience of separating areas according to their functions makes the merits of this design inferior to its disadvantages.
