The chart below compares the resources used to make 10,000 paper cups and polystyrene cups. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features. Make comparisons where relevant.
The given chart illustrates clearly the process and various stages by which polystyrene and paper cups are made, showing the five materials and resources that are used to produce each.
The five main elements used to produce both paper and polystyrene cups are petrol, wood, electricity water and other chemicals. The proportion of each material used differs for each type of cup. Polystyrene cups require a very small amount of electricity (6 KW), whereas electricity accounts for almost a quarter of resources used in paper cups (54 KW). Both types of cup rely heavily on wood, with paper and polystyrene being made up of approximately 50% of this material (220 kgs and 130 kgs respectively). Polystyrene cups require considerably more petroleum (78 kgs) than paper cups (18kgs), which the former being made up of almost 25% of this resource. Both cup types require a small amount of other chemicals with there being little difference in their respective total usage of these. Water accounts for less than 1 ton in both cup types.
Thus, we can see from the chart that both polystyrene and paper cups rely up the same resources for their production, albeit in different quantities.
