　　The debate over what subjects should be taught at universities has long been a focusing point in education. Whilst some believe theoretical subjects are the key to provide a good foundation, others stress on the importance of applying knowledge to real world. Personally, I believe there are numerous advantages associated with learning theoretical subjects.

　　The most important reason is that theoretical subjects provide a foundation for further study and work. Since every subject is based on logic and a set of axioms that governs its nature. It’s thus important to understand this process, and the best way is, of course, to be taught its theoretical aspects at universities. For example, a person that wants to study to be a pilot needs to first understand how physics and mathematics works. The importance of learning theory cannot be underestimated.

　　Secondly, the role of universities is to further expand, research on current mainstream topical knowledge.This means as tertiary institution, universities should be the driving force on developing new ideas, new theories, and not focusing on practical sides, which is the purpose of most vocational training Centre.For instance, a student who wants to be a mathematician will be required to study for a degree at university. However, a person that wants to be a plumber can acquire the necessary skills at a vocational training Centre. As a result,this historical feature of teaching theoretical subjects at universities has been developed into a tradition and pathway for most people.

　　Financially speaking, it may also be unwise or simply unfeasible to provide every student the equipment needed for practical learning. For example, learning to be a builder would require university to buy cement, mixer etc... This would be vast costly for university to do so, but focusing on mainly theoretical subject, universities can avoid this cost.

　　In conclusion, given the numerous advantages of teaching theoretical subjects at universities, I strongly believe universities should focus on teaching theoretical subjects.
