　　A desire to throw over reality a light that never was might give away abruptly to the desire on the part of what we might consider a novelist-scientist to record exactly and concretely the structureand texture of a flower.

　　主干结构

　　A desire might give away abruptly to the desire.

　　一种欲望突然地被这种欲望所代替。

　　子句拆分

　　该句一共有三个子句：

　　1) 主句(第一层级)：见主干结构

　　2) that引导的定语从句(第二层级): that never was 这个定语从句修饰a light。

　　3) what引导的宾语从句(第二层级): what we might consider a novelist-scientist。

　　知识难点

　　1) 短语倒装

　　to throw overreality a light that never was修饰a desire，其中throw over reality a light that never was是短语倒装结构。正常的语序是throw A over B，当A很长按照标准书面语言的习惯表达使用倒装结构，写成throw over B A。

　　to record exactly and concretely the structure and texture of a flower修饰the desire，其中record exactly and concretely the structure and textureof a flower是短语倒装结构，正常的语序是record the structure and texture of a flower exactly andconcretely。

　　2) 插入结构

　　on the part of what we might consider anovelist-scientist将the desire和to分开，给我们阅读句子带来了一定的困难，但这种插入结构在标准书面语言中是很常见的表达，体现出表达的高效性。

　　3) 词法与词义

　　light的其中一个词义是观点(aparticular aspect or appearance presented to view)，比如saw thematter in a different light。that never was指不存在的。所以 a light that never was指未存在过的观点。

　　on the part of指就该方面而言。

　　句意点评
