Nowadays, some people claim that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. To what extent you agree or disagree with this opinion?
With the development of science and technology, there is aproposal that people nowadays can visit cultural relics and enjoy artworks through computers so simply that there is no need tomaintain such buildings as museums and galleries. I think this point of view is unreasonable and museums and galleries will always exist.
Those who are in favor of this replacement must agree with two standpoints. First, the computer can totally simulate the view of a visitor in reality, so that the visiting experience will not be affected by the screen. Second, since famous museums and galleries are located everywhere in the world and far from each other, it is much more convenient to visit them online, saving time and money on the way. Moreover, people can see the exhibits online whenever they want even when the museums are closed.
The first point, however, is groundless, since some relics can only beappreciated face to face. For example, the well-known painting, the Mona Lisa, should be viewed from different viewpoints to be fully enjoyed. As for the second point, it is true to some extent; nevertheless, for some visitors, instead of the exhibits themselves, it is the atmosphere and feelings in the museum that counts, so they would always go to the position rather than just “have a visit” online.
In conclusion, what museums and art galleries represent is certainlyirreplaceable. Although computer simulates are sometimes convenient and accessible, it can never replace every detail in museums or galleries.
