　　Alright, so a time I made a promise to someone was when I promised my parents that I would get a good grade on my college entrance exams. So, this was during high school, obviously, and I had been preparing for a long time for my college entrance exams.

　　As for why I made this promise to my parents, well, my parents have always had high expectations for my academics. Ever since I was a child, they enrolled me in several extracurricular classes and always expected me to attend a top university. On top of that, I’ve gotten excellent grades throughout school and was near the top of my class in high school, so they were definitely expecting me to do well on my college entrance exams.

　　And, um, I promised them that I would try my best to get a high score on my college entrance exams. Back then, I didn’t say a specific score or anything, but a high enough score to attend an elite university. Even though they were confident in my academic abilities, they were still anxious about my future, so I tried to reassure them that I would do well.

　　Finally, the promise I made to them was clearly hard to achieve. The college entrance exam varies every year in terms of difficulty and type of questions, so it’s not always realistic to know what to expect. I mean, you can certainly prepare for all the subjects, but you won’t know what you get until you actually see the questions on the exam itself. I ended up getting a decent score, but it was still not as high as I hoped.

　　Generally speaking, in China, would parents make promises to their children?

　　I suppose they make promises some of the time, like promising to reward their children if they do well in class, achieve high grades, or things like that.

　　Do adults or children usually make more promises?

　　I think in general, children make more promises than adults, but not all of them keep their promises.

　　Do you think children can fulfil their promises?

　　Um, not really, especially not young children, but children who are older and more mature often keep their promises.

　　On what occasions do people fail to honour their promises?

　　I guess on when the promise isn’t very realistic, like if a child promised her friend that she would give that friend a lot of money in exchange for a favour.
