　　In some countries, old people who retire from work spend the money on themselves (e.g. holiday) rather than save money for their children. Is this a positive or negative development?

　　It is true that, in a number of countries, old retirees are spending money on themselves instead of leaving an inheritance for their children. While there are benefits to this, I believe that overall it is a negative development.On one hand, when people spend money on themselves, it teaches their children to not rely too much on their help. It helps their children build character and find a purpose in life, pushing them to become more independent and self-supporting. For that reason, some of the wealthiest people in the world, such Bill Gates, have pledged to leave nothing to their children. In addition, old people were the ones who have earned their money, so they deserve to enjoy it. Going on holiday, buying nice things, and going travelling will also make them happier and healthier for the remaining years of the lives.Nonetheless, I still believe that old retirees should leave some inheritance for their children rather than spend everything on themselves. The main reason is that it provides their children more financial stability, giving them a safety net to fall back on. This is important because, despite their best efforts, people often live hard lives and any financial support could help considerably. On top of that, when parents leave an inheritance for their children, it shows love and kindness. It’s a very unselfish act that helps strengthen the family bond while parents are still alive and leaves a lasting memory when they are gone.For these reasons, I believe that even though old retirees should spend money on themselves, they should also leave some inheritance for their children.
