I’m going to describe something I did with a group of people, which was having dinner with my family and relatives during Chinese New Year’s Eve last year.

Right before the Spring Festival, we went to visit my grandparents. They live in another city that’s about two hours away from us, so we took the train to get there. By the time we arrived, my other relatives were already there, like my uncle, aunt, and cousins.

It was a special dinner because it happens just once a year. I remember that my grandparents had prepared a lot of food. There were fish, dumplings, chicken, and other types of meat and vegetables. The food was tasty and appetizing, with lots of different flavours, and I ate so much of it that my stomach hurt. I really am a big fan of my grandparents’ cooking.

The reason why we gather for a family dinner every Spring Festival is because, firstly, it’s part of Chinese tradition. Millions of Chinese people actually travel back to their hometown for this. But also, it’s nice to be able to see your relatives again and catch up with them. I had not seen most of mine in a year, so there were lots of things we could chat about. For example, my cousin was attending his first year in high school, so I shared some of my personal experiences and gave him some advice. Anyway, all in all, the family dinner was an enjoyable and intimate bonding experience that brought us closer to each other, and I’ll always treasure moments like these.
