【启德考培】TOEFL写作低分？快改掉这个低级语法错误~

“Thus”是“因此”的意思，但很多同学把它等同于“so”，就写出了下面这种句子：

【例】Danny is a big fan of Curry, thus he is fond of shooting three points when playing basketball.

【译】Danny是库里的球迷，因此他打球时喜欢投三分球。

乍一看没什么毛病，但却有一个典型的语法错误——run-on sentence（连写句）。“thus”和“so”的用法不同。“thus”只能做副词，不能做连词，因此“thus”不能在一个句子里连接两套主谓宾。如果大家要用thus来替换so，可以用下面两种方法：

1.SVO. Thus, SVO.

我们把两套主谓宾用句号分成两句话。thus作为副词可以放在第二句的开头。于是上面的句子可以改成：Danny is a big fan of Curry.Thus, he is...

2.SVO; thus, SVO. 或者 SVO, and thus, SVO.

分号和连词 and 都可以连接两套主谓宾。

【分号】Danny is really into Brazil Jiujisu; thus, he is a collector of all suits related to this fantastic sport.

【and】Danny is really into Brazil Jiujisu, and thus, he is a collector of all suits related to this fantastic sport.

再来看一个TOEFL阅读中的例子：

These roads made possible a reduction in transportation costs, and thus they stimulated the commercialization of agriculture along their routes.

这些道路使得交通费用的降低成为可能，因此刺激了沿途的农业商品化。

3.总结一下

thus不能在一句话里连接两套主谓宾，所以写作时要注意。类似的therefore，hence也都是副词，也都不能连接句子，使用起来和thus要一样谨慎。
