From history books or relevant movies, itis not difficult for us to notice that important governors in ancient Chinawere usually old or middle-aged. Recent years, however, have witnessed adecline in the age of government leaders. Despite public’s controversy overwhether such a trend is positive or negative to a nation’s fate and furtherdevelopment, I do think that it should be encouraged.
From the skeptics’ point of view, there isno denying that the substantial experience and unique views from old governmentofficers is priceless to the survival of a country. Since they have encounteredand overcome various difficulties and challenges throughout their career, ranging from political crises to major agenda for benefiting the majority, theyare more likely to make wise and sound decisions and avoid making the samemistakes compared with their young counterparts. Therefore, they are aninvaluable asset for an authority in terms of lowering risks in policy makingprocess and guaranteeing a more comprehensive measure which takes a wider rangeof factors in to consideration. In addition, the valuable advice andinstructions given by them are widely believed to be beneficial to the rookies’occupational development in different departments. After all, their role as amodel to ensure desirable traditions passed down to junior staff and to maintainstable political situation to country is undeniable.
Nevertheless, it is not uncommon for us tohear the comments on old generation’s conservative choices when it comes to theneed for breakthroughs. In other words, their cliché opinions may curb thefurther advancement of a country. The new blood in government, by contrast, isadvocated for their innovation and creativity. Not bounded in the frame of conventionalconducts and previous glories, they are willing to take risks and try anypossible alternatives or even make significant changes in government policies.Although this might be risky and result in failures and vanity, from along-term prospective, it is an inevitable process of the evolution of humancivilisation and the key to a sustainable development of a country. What ismore, the energy and passion that they bring to the job are an invisible forceto drive the advancement and perfection of a government’s performance.
In summary, as a trend not only inpolitical field but other industries, more and more emphases are currentlybeing laid upon the young generation. I am in favour of it in that changes arethe crucial element to a lifeline. The fear for risk is possibly the biggest threatto hold back an entity from its continuous social progress in diverse domains.Hence, it is advisable that the entire society should truly appreciate itsnecessity and benefits and provide supports accordingly.
