　　As with most technological innovations, online shopping presents challenges as well as opportunities. It isn’t simply the case that online shopping is good or bad; it is more that it has changed the way people make purchases and the way in which business is done. There are both positive and negative aspects to this development.

　　On the one hand, online shopping enables people to buy and sell goods at the click of a button. In most cases, the products people buy online will be delivered to one’s door within twenty-four hours. The convenience with which we can buy and sell is surely a positive development and one that aids economic growth. It is in some ways much easier to establish an online trading platform than it is to do so in the traditional sense. Businesses incur fewer costs as a result of trading online and they are able to target a wider market.

　　On the other hand, online stores have had a damaging effect on the traditional retail industry. Shops which were once an integral part of small communities are now going out of business. In many societies, shops are not just places where people buy products; they are central components of one’s community. This has created a vacuum at the heart of many communities, with their sense of uniqueness and energy vanquished by the competition posed by online stores.

　　Thus, in summary, it is clear that online shopping has drawbacks, but the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages. In that sense, online shopping has been a positive development.
