参考范文:
• Parentsreading to children has long been practiced in the history in every culture. The universal aim, of course, is to help children with their early education.Nowadays, the advancement of technologies enables children to get access toinformation not only from books, but also from Internet and other media. Is itright for parents to read to their children or should children spend more timeto search for answer themselves on the Internet? I’m now going to discuss bothviews and provide my opinion on it.
• Some educators believe that children should beguided by parents when reading since they have low level of vocabulary andunderstanding ability. Children are likely to encounter many unfamiliar wordsand concepts in their reading, and it is the responsibility of parents toexplain to children and support them in their learning progress. For instance, a 5-year-old child may comeacross many words that he has never seen before when the first time he readsHarry Potter. Thusby being a listener, they can enhance their understanding of the story line. Moreover, children need to be aware of thedanger of being exposed to any inappropriate books. Sadly, as we all are aware, not all books are great for children. For example, some books contain strongcontents of adult material, such as pornography and violent concepts, which arevery ill advised for children to read.
• Onthe other hand, many other people believe the youths should read variousresources themselves. This is firstly because children will learn more and understandknowledge on a deeper level if they are able to find the answers for themselves. For example, when they encounter words which they have not seen before, but byresearching it online, they can find the answers for themselves, so they do notneed to ask parents for help. Often, this can help children to remember theword in a longer period comparing simply being told the answer.Additionally, reading the material online canencourage children to develop independent thinking skill. Parents’ answers arenot always right, and they cannot always be there to respond when children arestuck. Therefore,it is important for children to develop the skills to search for answersthemselves when they are unsure. This is especially the case when they go to a university, where itruns on independent learning. This is why children should early on, beingencouraged to find useful resources themselves and not relies on their parentsfor it.
• In my view, parents have paramount importance in children's education, and this can oftenbe achieved by simple means such as reading to or being together with children. However, at the same time, parents should also be cautious not to do thisexcessively as it can destroy children's independent learning. Therefore, efforts should also be made toencourage them to find answers for themselves. That means to achieve a successfuleducation, a balanced approach of both methods should be employed.
