　　Consider your options when it comes to living overseas

　　In Vancouver, Canada, Mia was shown to her bedroom in her homestay. But, to her surprise and disappointment, it turned out that her room was in the basement. ‘Never have I lived in a room like that.’ she complained. Meanwhile, in Brisbane, Australia, Sally shows pictures taken during the holiday together with her host family. It is obvious that she has a really good time with them.

　　The first problem students deal with just before they go abroad is deciding where to live: a homestay, a residence hall, or just to rent a house or flat? The majority of students choose to live with a host family because it is relatively cheaper, and, in addition, they are eager to communicate with local people to familiarize themselves with the new environment.

　　Unfortunately, it can be difficult to figure out just what kind of person a landlord will be. Most Chinese students believe that foreigners are friendly. Actually, this is not always the case. Generally speaking, there are two types of landlords. Some landlords are very friendly. They not only offer high-quality food to the overseas students but also tell them something about their customs and people. Also, sometimes they may drive students to school. But some students may encounter mean and unfriendly owners, who will ask students to pay extra charges if they eat too much, or who will blame them because they use shower too often, or something like that.

　　So, as a student, one of the luckiest things is to find a pleasant home to live in. Here are some tips to consider:

　　1)First, you need to take rent into consideration. Generally, rent varies according to your living requirements. If you’d like a big house with a garden and swimming pool and want to be the only guest, the rent will definitely be higher. Oh, don’t forget the fact that tenants are generally supposed to pay the rent on a weekly or monthly basis.

　　2)Also, the location of the living area is also very important. Most students choose to live not far from their schools or college. If you live a little far from where you study, it is a good idea to live in an area with a good transportation system.
