　　In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of corporations and industries relocating to the suburbs, alleviating the kinds of problems one associates with industrial cities: smog and pollution, traffic and over-crowding. In developed cities, urban areas are now synonymous with residential buildings, leisure and entertainment.

　　Arguments against companies moving away from cities have been muted in the last few decades, with critics being notable for their scarcity. Some say that moving companies away from cities increases the distance employees must commute to work. While this may be true, improvements to public transport infrastructure should make commutes less arduous. High speed rail networks in many countries make it much easier to commute, while many organisations now recognise the benefits to both employees and employers alike of remote working.

　　It is clear that the nature of the modern economy is changing and, while it is tempting for advocates of the free market system the demand flexibility from the workforce, they cannot do so without providing the workforce with something in return. Workers should be judged on performance rather than attendance. If companies relocate to areas where it is inconvenient for employees to travel to, compromises on attendance must be made to accommodate this.

　　In conclusion, I would argue that changes to the logistics of work have been broadly positive, yet there are still changes that must be made to the nature of industrial relations in order for this to be regarded as a complete success. To that end, allowing workers greater flexibility is the solution.
